The World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) is going back to King’s Casino, Rozvadov – Czech Republic in 2018 and the WSOP is hopeful this is the start of a new yearly tradition.
The WSOPE was the first expansion of the original WSOP series, holding its first tournament at the Sportsman Casino in London in 2007. Back then, the WSOPE only had three bracelet events, and a £10,000 NLH Main Event that was won by 18 year old Annette Obrestad, who was the youngest person at that time to ever win a WSOP bracelet.
Since then, the WSOPE has been hopping around Europe every year to host its tournament, setting up shop at the London Clubs International, Casino at the Empire, Le Croisette Casino Barrière, Casino Barrière d'Enghien-les- Bains, and Spielbank Berlin. Since the WSOPE struggled to find a permanent home, the WSOPE decided from 2018 to start hosting its tournament every other year instead of annually.
King’s Casino Steps Up
Last year was the first time the WSOPE partnered with King’s Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic. It was a perfect venue for the growing brand since King’s Casino had the largest poker room in Europe, then with 160 tables.
The WSOPE held 11 bracelet events at King’s Casino in 2017 and saw more than 7,000 entrants and prize pools that exceeded €25,000,000. Some of the highlights of last year’s tournament were the €5-million prize pool Main Event, which was won by the Spanish player Marti Roca de Torres, and the €111,111 buy-in High Roller for One Drop charity event, which won German pro Dominik Nitsche who took home €3,487,463.
Many believed the WSOPE would return only in 2019 but the WSOPE confirmed that it will head back to King’s Casino in 2018. The WSOPE will be heading back to King’s Casino from October 11 to November 2 and plans to bring back the annual tradition of the series. Since renovations at the King’s have been completed, they now have 200 poker tables and since their hotel project is now finished the casino is now able to provide the needs of the WSOPE going forward.

WSOPE announced that 10 official WSOP gold bracelet events will be returning for the tournament in October, although the official schedule has yet to be revealed.
