They say it is difficult to be consistent at winning at the poker table but no one informed Alex Foxen about this. The 27-year-old poker pro has had a great run in 2018 and finished the year topping the 2018 Global Poker Index (GPI) list, beating some of poker’s most prominent names, including Justin Bonomo and Steve O’Dwyer.
Foxen’s performance has improved by leaps and bounds when compared to 2017, when he finished in 12th place in the GPI rankings. For quite some time it looked like Stephen Chidwick would claim the 2018 GPI Player of the Year title but Foxen had a great run in November and took the top spot.
As the year came to a close, Foxen’s total earnings was hard to beat and he ultimately led the overall rankings with a GPI score of 4095.52.
2018 was a stellar year for the New York poker pro who recorded his biggest wins to date. Some of his achievements include a $963,000 victory at the Asia Pacific Poker Tour Super High Roller held in Macau in March 2018, as well as a $2.16 million runner-up finish in the $300,000 Super High Roller Bowl V in December.
During 2018, Foxen recorded 24 cashes, including 5 titles and 18 final tables, earning for himself over $6.6 million. His total career earnings currently amount to $8.8 million.
2018 GPI Top 20 Players
The GPI is a leaderboard index that ranks poker players all over the world according to their live poker results. The list is updated each week with each of the player’s performances being assessed through their finishing positions. The rankings are a great indication as to who are the top poker players in each calendar year.
The poker pros who made it into the top three rankings include Stephen Chidwick who finished in second place with a GPI score of 3787.26 and David Peters who came in third with a GPI score of 3776.97). Some of the other popular poker players who finished in the top 10 include Justin Bonomo, Steve O’Dwyer, Adrian Mateos and Joe McKeehan.
Alex Foxen also has another reason to celebrate as his girlfriend Kristen Bicknell topped the GPI female poker rankings for the second consecutive year in a row by a good margin. The poker power couple will look to do better in 2019 and continue to boost their poker winnings.
