Summary:
- The BetMGM Poker Championship returns this year, this time with $2M in guarantees
- BetMGM Poker will be awarding 100 seats via online qualifiers
- BetMGM Poker Championship is expected to attract more players than last year
Poker players travelling to Las Vegas this summer have another major poker event to look forward to – the BetMGM Poker Championship, which returns for a second edition this year at ARIA.
The inaugural event in 2022 was a massive success and now organizers are upping the stakes, with players set to compete for $2 million in guaranteed prize money, twice the guarantee offered last year.
2023 BetMGM Poker Championship
The 2023 BetMGM Poker Championship runs from June 9-13 and has a buy-in of $3,500. This year, BetMGM Poker will be awarding packages to 100 players via online satellites running at BetMGM Poker platforms in New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ontario. This offers a great opportunity for US and Canadian poker players to compete for at least $300,000 in top prize given the boosted guarantee.
The package includes the $3,500 BetMGM Poker Championship buy-in, a six-night stay at ARIA Resort & Casino, and travel allowance. In addition to that, online qualifiers also earn automatic entry into the BetMGM Poker Championship $800 Mystery Bounty Event. That means successful qualifiers will be playing not just one but two key tournaments as part of the BetMGM Poker Championship event.
It would be interesting to see who follows in the footsteps of defending champ Joey Weissman who took down last year’s event for $224,236. The tournament is expected to attract plenty of well-known poker pros so we can expect top-notch action, and who knows, Weissman could be back to defend his title. He’ll be up for more competition this year though, as the increased guarantee and online qualifiers should help draw a much bigger field than last year.
Massive Turnout Expected
The BetMGM Poker Championship runs around the same dates as other major festivals scheduled for this summer in Las Vegas, including the World Series of Poker (WSOP) at Horseshoe, the Wynn Summer Classic and the Venetian DeepStack Championship.
If last year’s results are any indication, the 2023 BetMGM Poker Championship is expected to attract a huge turnout and exceed expectations especially as the guarantee has been doubled.
The inaugural event recorded 343 registrations, enough to smash its $1 million guarantee. 68 of the total entries qualified online via BetMGM sites in the US.
