Canadian poker player with a 2,515 GPI Rank, Dustin Melanson, has won Event #8: $1,700 No Limit Holdem Main Event at the World Series of Poker Circuit Playground.
Defeating a Field of 1,660 Players
Melanson managed to defeat a field made of 1,660 players, scooping up $339,770 after his final heads-up deal with Sergei Gurin.
The win helped Melanson more than double his career live earnings while also bringing him the World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event Champion to his already successful career.
Melanson made a comeback as chip leader on Day 3, ruling over the 22 players standing. While he wasn’t in the lead the entire day, he managed to reach heads-up play with fellow Canadian with a 8,788 GPI rank, Sergei Gurin.
The latter also proved excellent skills throughout the day. The two were almost even at the beginning of heads-up play, with Gurin in the chip lead.
An hour and a half later, Melanson had every chip in play, eventually being crowned champion.
Commenting on his win, he explained he felt like he was at his best and that his opponents could not keep up with his “aggression and the pressure” he was putting on.
He explained that his consistency “with switching gears at the right time” and the few “good spots along the way” helped him win.
“You Need to Run Good, Feel Good, and I Felt Great.”
Further describing his final table experience, the champion mentioned his “nice ace from space on the river”, adding “You need to run good, feel good, and I felt great”.
Melanson also took the opportunity to speak about his Playground experiences and the way they have changed his career as a professional poker player as well as his personal life, since he met his partner Emily in the same room.
These guys, and this poker room, essentially, groomed my game and the player I am today. These guys are fantastic.
