2020 World Series of Poker – Key Highlights And Interesting Stats

The international leg of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online Bracelet Series has finally concluded and there are a number of record-breaking results to report!

The mega festival, which ran on GGPoker on July 19 to September 8, ended up awarding almost $150 million in total prize money, creating history as the biggest online poker tournament series to date.

A total 54 bracelets have been awarded across almost two months of intense online action.

$5,000 Main Event Smashes Records

The $5,000 buy-in main event exceeded expectations after it drew 5,802 entries across over three weeks of starting flights to generate an astonishing $27.5 million in total prize pool, smashing its $25 million initial guarantee.

It now holds the record for the largest prize pool in a single tournament, and the biggest first place prize in online poker history ($3.9 million) which ultimately went to Bulgarian poker pro Stoyan Madanzhiev.

New Records Created by the 2020 WSOP

Event #71: Big 50 attracted a total of 44,576 players, creating a new record for the largest number of entries in WSOP history. It also marked the first time that the series introduced a bracelet event that only required a $50 entry fee.

The festival also attracted the most number of nationalities (166) to participate in an individual WSOP series, and made the most number of millionaires in a single series (11).

Four players walked away as millionaires in the $5000 buy-in Main Event, the same number of millionaires created in partypoker’s MILLIONS Online. The 2020 WSOP also generated 45 seven-figure prize pools, the highest number in any online tournament series.

Each event awarded an average prize pool of $2.7 million, the biggest ever in the history of real money online poker. The 2020 WSOP is also GGPoker’s biggest online festival to date, after the massive $100 million-guaranteed GGPoker WSOP circuit series back in May.

Key Facts and Figures

Overall, the 2020 WSOP online bracelet series attracted a total of 239,754 entries. As many as 45 events generated at least $1,000,000 in prize pool money, five of them ended up awarding at least $5,000,000, with two events paying out at least $10,000,000 in total prize money.

Canadian poker pro Alex Stasiak was the only player to win multiple bracelets – he won the Covid-19 charity event, and then went on to capture his second bracelet in the $1,000 no-limit hold’em event.

There are three female winners in the tournament series – Canadian poker pro Kristen Bicknell who won Event #44, Vietnam’s Thi Truong who captured Event #74, and Iranian beauty queen Melika Razavi who took down Event #82.
