English Poker Players Who Are Cashing In With Their Success

Poker is one of the most successful American exports to England. While many of the skills and characteristics assumed to be necessary to poker such as guile, ruthlessness, and aggression seem antithetical to the classic English stereotype, poker players in England have flourished in playing tournaments and have made millions of dollars.

We take a look at the top five English poker pros based on prize money.

5. Talal Shakerchi

Prize Money: $7,626,967

Shakerchi’s live tournament results, impressive enough on their own is made even more impressive by the fact that he does not play poker full time.

Working primarily as a hedge fund manager and businessman, Shakerchi’s side hustle as a poker player is more lucrative than most people’s careers.

Shakerchi’s largest cash was at the 2018 Las Vegas Super High Roller Bowl, where he finished 4th and took home a $1.1 million payday.

4. Jack Salter

Prize Money: $8,139,551

Salter has had great success as a high stakes tournament player but his claim to fame came in 2016 when he went on to secure 4th place in the High Roller for One Drop Tournament and collected over $1.5 million in prize money, which is still his biggest cashout till date.

Some of his other big paydays for Salter include $238,868 for securing the 5th place at the 2019 Aussie Millions 2019.

3. Charlie Carrel

Prize Money: $9,571,776

Easily recognisable due to his unruly mane of hair and his table talk, Charlie Carrel perfectly plays the part of an English dandy at the poker table.

His biggest score was this year when he won $1,601,853 at the £50,000 buy-in No Limit Hold Em 8-Handed event at the 2019 Triton Poker Super High Roller Series.

2. Sam Trickett

Prize Money: $21,337,841

Trickett is one of the most popular poker players in the UK and his success at poker is inspiring thousands of young poker players across the UK.

Trickett is most famous for being the runner-up to the inaugural One Drop $1.1 million tournament, where he received a cool $10,112,001 for his efforts.

He has also won three super high roller events at the Aussie Millions which brought him a total of $5 million.

1. Stephen Chidwick

Prize Money: $32,372,135

Chidwick has had a great run in recent years at high stakes tournaments that has allowed him to increase his overall career prize money.

The one thing that evaded him was a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet but he took that off his bucket list when he won the $25,000 buy-in 8-handed Pot Limit Omaha high roller at the 2019 WSOP earning $1,618,417.

His largest cash to date is $5,368, 947 for securing 4th place at the £1,050,000 buy-in 2019 Triton Million, which came just two months after back to back million dollar scores.
