Summary:
The 2023 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Goliath series officially concluded on August 6, with multiple key events crowning their winners, including the Goliath Main Event which was won by English poker pro Alex Todd.
The series turned out to be a big success with over £2.9 million in prize money given away. Tournament organizers have already announced the dates for the 2024 GUKPT Goliath Series which will run from July 25 to Aug 6.
Todd’s win can be considered the main highlight of this year’s festival after he topped a record-breaking field of 11,493 entries. But the series also produced several other big winners, including Matthew Davenport and Dean Hutchison. Let’s take a look at each of their victories at the recently-concluded tournament series.
The Goliath Main Event attracted the most number of entries throughout the series and that came as no surprise given the massive popularity of the tournament in the UK poker circuit. Additionally, it featured seven starting flights, with a buy-in of only £150, giving as many as players as possible the chance to take a shot at the title.
As Day 1G wrapped up, the tournament recorded 11,493 total registrations, the largest-ever field for the Goliath Main Event. That created a total prize pool of £1,379,160. When the dust settled, it was Todd who walked away with the largest chunk, taking home £178,860 following a six-way deal. He has gone down in history as the winner of the biggest Goliath Main Event.
Fresh off from an impressive showing at the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event in Las Vegas where he finished 6th for $1,850,000, Hutchison returned to the UK to participate in the GUKPT Goliath £2,000 High Roller. And it produced another great result for the Scottish pro after he bested a 103-entry field and took down the tournament for £55,200.
Apart from the Goliath Main Event, the series also featured another major tournament, the GUKPT Main Event. The £1,000 event attracted 544 entrants to generate £489,600 in total prize pool. It was ultimately won by Davenport for £116,000 in top prize.
That victory adds to Davenport’s list of Grosvenor Poker achievements, including being crowned as the Grosvenor Player of the Year in 2022. The poker pro is currently a member of TeamGrosvenor.
