2023 WSOP on Course For Record-Breaking Prize Pool of Nearly $400m

The 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is already smashing records halfway through the US poker festival, with more than $150 million in prize money awarded so far.

More than 40 bracelet events have yet to play out, including the highly-anticipated $10,000 Main Event, and with that, the series is on track to generate nearly $400 million in total prize pool, breaking its 2022 record.

2023 WSOP Halfway Figures

A total of 47 gold bracelets have already been won as the 2023 WSOP reaches its midway point. The series has recorded 103,473 entries across three weeks, creating $153,672,652 in total prize pool. Based on this data, the average prize money awarded in each of the 47 events was $3,269,631. The average buy-in per event was $14,080.

Multiple events on the 2023 schedule outclassed their 2022 performances, including the $1,500 MONSTER STACK NLH which this year attracted 8,317 entries, up from 6,501 last year. The total prize money awarded rose by 28% from $8.6 million in 2022 to more than $11 million in 2023.

The WSOP’s newest event, the $300 Gladiators of Poker, did not disappoint. It pulled in 23,088 entries to generate $5,679,648 in total prize pool, making it the second-largest WSOP event in history in terms of field size, just behind 2019’s Big 50 which attracted 28,371 entries.

Overall, the turnout so far is at an all-time high for the WSOP and represents a 10% increase from the attendance numbers recorded during the first half of last year’s festival.

WSOP 2023 Poised to Break Records

The series is set to hit its climax in the next few weeks as the 2023 WSOP Main Event takes place. Organizers are particularly aiming to crush the tournament’s attendance record and they could very well achieve that goal given that hundreds of real money poker players have already qualified for the event through various campaigns.

Signature events like the MILLIONAIRE MAKER which is known to draw huge fields, as well as the $1,000 PLO Championship, also form part of the second half of the series.

If this year’s festival continues to perform at its current pace, it could create nearly $400 million in total prize money, the biggest ever in the history of the series and surpassing last year’s figure which stood at almost $350 million.
