Polk Hints At Quitting Poker Again… After HU Match With Negreanu

Doug Polk has continued to crush Daniel Negreanu in their ongoing heads-up battle.

The Upswing Poker founder won Day 35 of the match which took place on February 1, leaving his opponent with a huge $209,000 deficit.

Polk is now ahead by $945,804 to be exact, with the pair completing a total of 23,306 hands so far.

With the battle almost over, we can almost predict the outcome – Polk will likely win and might even take home seven figures, in addition to his huge side bets.

But will Polk’s potential victory against his long-time rival convince him to continue playing poker? Well, the answer is a big “NO” if his most recent tweets are any indication.

While sharing updates on Day 34 of the match, Polk stated he wasn’t interested in playing a rematch, regardless of the outcome. The three-time WSOP bracelet winner reiterated he’s no longer enjoying the game the way he used to, and that he could no longer bear going through all of the study time and preparations needed to participate in another heads-up match.

Polk’s main focus right now is to avoid burnout and achieve some flexibility as much as possible. He also revealed his plans to leave Nevada for the next 4-5 months.

Polk Quit Poker In 2019

In July 2019, Polk tweeted he would no longer be playing real money poker. He made the announcement after busting the WSOP Main Event. Since then he had been absent from the poker circuit, and had not played for over a year.

In early 2020, he also revealed that he’d be signing off as poker content creator, shutting down his popular YouTube channel.

However in July of last year, the poker pro expressed his intention to come out of retirement, and that’s if Negreanu agreed to a heads-up match to settle their longstanding feud once and for all. While initially hesitant, the former all-time money list leader eventually accepted the challenge.

So can we expect a similar scenario happening? What if Polk finds another target? Will he play again? Well, the Upswing Poker founder also clarified that he would not be competing against any more challengers apart from Negreanu, despite massive money at stake. So even if offers come for him to take on either Dan Bilzerian or Bill Perkins, he will reject them.
