Barcelona Set To Host 2016 EPT Tour Stop From August 16

The 13th edition of the European Poker Tour (EPT) is all set to kick off on August 16 in Barcelona. The EPT Barcelona will take place at Casino Barcelona and will feature over 60 exciting events. The events range from a €120 hyper turbo event to a €50,000 Super High Roller, offering poker players a wide variety of choices.

Organizers expect record breaking registrations this year. Last year, EPT Barcelona had around 1,694 entries for the €5,300 EPT Barcelona Main Event which was won by John Juanda. He took home €1,022,593 for his first place win.

This year’s tournament will see a host of top stars participating including EPT Grand Final Champion Adrian Mateos, Matthias De Meulder, Jason Wheeler and Sergio Aido.

Apart from the Main Event, the event schedule for this year’s edition includes a number of special events such as the Estrellas Main Event  – €1,000 + €100, NL -Hold’em  – €10,000 + €300, PokerStars Open – €200 + €20 , Super High Roller – €48,500+ €1,500 and EPT High Roller – €10,000 + €300.

PokerStars which is sponsoring the EPT Barcelona event is hosting a number of satellites on its website with buy-ins as low as €10. PokerStars is also offering a special EPT Barcelona package worth €9,000 that can be won on playing EPT Barcelona Spin & Go games on its website. The package will have a seat for the €5,300 Main Event, plus prize money of €3,700 for travel and accommodation.

Barcelona is a popular stop on the EPT circuit and poker players are always happy to travel and be in the beautiful city during the summer. In a statement Matthias De Meulder said

The timing and setting of the event are perfect. Summer time in Barcelona alone is great, then on top of it there are poker tournaments all day every day taking place for ten plus days straight. The tournaments are big and known to be less tough than similar events elsewhere. I have been making pretty good money there.

Wheeler who has been coming to Barcelona for years now said that the EPT Barcelona event can be a tough experience for first-timers with long lines and big crowds making registrations and payouts a hassle. He suggested that players would do better to register online and pick up tickets and cash-outs early in the morning or late at night to avoid the lines.
