Fedor Holz Wins 2017 Triton Super High Roller Series

Poker pro Fedor Holz has won yet another high roller live poker event. This time it’s the 2017 Triton Super High Roller Series Montenegro 6-Max High Roller HK$250,000 that took place between July 16 –17 at the Maestral Resort & Casino in Budva, Montenegro.

The 23 year-old professional poker player from Germany has been on a roll in recent times, and the latest title is just one more impressive victory. In his most recent win, Holz beat a field of 41 entrants who had created a prize pool of $1.2 million. The first place finish has earned him prize money of HK$3,472,200 ($444,893).

Out of the 41 players, 25 made it to the second and final day of the tournament. A four-hour play saw the field narrow down to 12 players, soon after which the final table was set. Holz entered the final table with a chip lead but over the next few hours his position fluctuated sharply. At one time, he was dangerously down to 400,000 chips but recovered with patient play and an admirable display of skill.

In the end, it came down to a battle between him and Su Hao from China. The thrilling two-hour heads-up battle against Su Hao saw both players fight hard and take the lead on different occasions only to fall back. However in the end, the experience and class of Holz showed as he kept his nerve and prevailed in the end.

Su took home HK$2,218,000 ($284,192) for his second place finish, his biggest career win till date. His prior best was at the recent PokerStars Championship Macau HK$40,000 Main Event where he collected HK$101,000 ($12,995) for a 42nd place finish. Despite Su’s relative inexperience, Holz said he had been surprised by his opponent’s play.

In a statement Holz said

Hao played pretty well. Someone told me that he has not played much but I thought that he played very well and it took quite a long time to finish him off. I was positively surprised

With this win, Holz’s live tournament winnings total has reached $23,354,884 strengthening his place at the top of Germany’s all-time money list. His current total has also brought him close to legendary player Phil Ivey’s spot in the overall all-time money list.

Ivey who has won ten WSOP gold bracelets reigns at the top with $23.8 million in total live poker earnings. With Ivey taking a low profile in poker tournaments of late, it might not be long before Holz takes over the top spot.
