Japanese Poker Tournament Chaos As Player Tries To Flip Poker Table

Summary

  • A disgruntled player barged in on Day 2 of the Japan Gold Dragon tournament and attempted to flip the feature table
  • Chips and cans of energy drink flew everywhere and the livestream had to be cut
  • No further details have emerged as to why the incident happened

A real money poker event in Osaka, Japan was interrupted after a player tried to flip the feature table during the live stream. A video of the incident made the rounds online over the weekend and it remains unclear why the player acted that way.

What Happened

The incident happened during Day 2 of the Japan Gold Dragon in Osaka shortly after the nine-handed final table was set. Less than five minutes into the final table action, a man wearing an orange hoodie barged in and attempted to flip the table. Though he failed in his plan, the game had to be stopped as the table went crashing to the floor and one of its legs had buckled.

The disgruntled player left momentarily, with chips scattered everywhere alongside cans of Red Bull, but he wasn’t done yet. He returned to the scene and appeared to confront a tournament staff before leaving. The incident left everyone at the table shocked, including the dealer and floor staff. The live stream was then cut.

Details are still scarce but based on available info on social media, the man in orange wasn’t a participant in the event. The rampage was also not connected to the tournament. The tournament organizer is also unlikely to issue any official statement on the incident, according to Japanese player Munehiko Matsuyama.

Japanese Version of Phil Hellmuth

Nobody has ever come close to Phil Hellmuth when it comes to meltdowns and trash talks at the poker table. The poker world doesn’t call him “The Poker Brat” for nothing. Whenever he plays, fans and spectators would always look forward to his signature blow-ups.

He caused quite a stir during the 2021 World Series of Poker with his f-bomb rant, with many saying it crossed the line. But throughout his career, The Poker Brat never went as far as attempting to flip a table.

All of the f-bombs and trash talk are nothing compared to what recently transpired at the Japan Gold Dragon tournament in Osaka. The man in orange hoodie appears to have a worse temper than the Poker Brat and the poker community is eager to know more about his real identity and the reason behind his actions.
