Live poker rooms in the UK were out of business for nearly 18 months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Even when they reopened after an extended lockdown, they did not open at full capacity as both casinos operators and poker operators did not want to rush into any major poker tournaments to be on the safe side.
The lack of live poker action has hurt British poker players. While the US poker market has returned to normal with the 2021 WSOP taking place at the Rio, British poker players have been left on the sidelines as the United States will only lift its international travel ban on Nov 08.
UK poker players will be excited to know that 888poker will run its 888poker LIVE Weekend at the Poker Room at Grosvenor Victoria on Oct 28. 888poker has teamed up with Grosvenor which is the biggest multi-channel casino operator in the UK. The buy-in to the 888poker LIVE Weekend Main Event is fixed at £444 and the guaranteed prize pool is set at £50,000.
Starting flights to the Main Event will take place daily from Oct 28 to Oct 31. Players who qualify from Day 1 will proceed to Day 2 which will take place on Oct 31. The format will see players have 40 minute blinds and 30,000 in chips when they start out. The only exception will be to Day 1D Turbo which has a 15 minute blind. Players will also have to use time clocks and time cards during the event.
The £444 can be a bit expensive for some poker players, so 888poker is running a number of satellite events that will allow players to win and qualify for the Main Event at a much lower cost.
UK players who are not looking to catch a last minute flight and make it to the 2021 WSOP Main Event can stay in the country and take part in some exciting live poker tournaments. After the 888poker LIVE Weekend is finished, players will get a chance to participate in PokerStars London Mega Series that will start on Nov 15. There are also multiple GUKPT events that will run in Nov and Dec in London.
PokerStars will also run a special PokerStars London Christmas Surprise Bounty on Dec 16. Check out the PokerStars website for more information.
