The 2019 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Europe Main Event came to a close and it was Czech poker pro Lukas Zaskodny who finished on top.
The poker pro defeated a field of 504 entries to secure victory and a cheque for €906,770.
Zaskodny engaged in a heads-up duel against fellow countryman Josef Snejberg, with the latter winning €718,230 for his second-place finish.
Reflecting on his win, Zaskodny said the final table may be quite shallow but everyone fought hard in the hopes of capturing the lion’s share of the prize pool.
Only eight players returned to the table for the final day of action, with British poker pro Charlie Carrel being the chip leader. He was responsible for the first elimination of the day, sending Czech player Rastislav Paleta to the rail in eighth place for €100,000. However, Carrel was unable to sustain his dominance in the subsequent hands, and soon after he followed Paleta in seventh place for €130,000.
Roberto Romanello was able to enter Day3 via the online Day 1+2 and got off to a great start, but he failed to advance further after doubling through Carrel. The team partypoker pro eventually finished sixth, taking home €170,000. Sam Grafton was the next player to be eliminated despite holding the chip lead at some points during the final table. The UK pro collected €220,000 for his fifth-place finish.
Austria’s Severin Schleser, who also made his way to Day 3 through the partypoker client, finished in fourth place for €300,000. Schleser qualified via an online satellite, with a buy-in about 100 times smaller than the actual buy-in (€10,300) paid by most of the players who took part in the Main Event.
French poker Romain Lewis walked away with the third-place prize of €428,000. Lewis was yet another one of the Main Event final table players who showed up at the Kings Resort for the first time by successfully overcoming the online challenge.
After Lewis’ exit, the final two players had a short break before resuming action. Lukas Zaskodny and Snejberg who are close friends had never played heads up before but ironically had discussed in July the possibility of doing battle at the poker table.
The two friends got their wish at the Main Event and they entered into a deal, leaving €100,000 to play for. Zaskodny was holding the chip lead when heads-up play began, already securing €806,770 regardless of the outcome. Snejberg managed to snatch the lead at one point, but Zaskodny won two huge pots, making his victory official.
