Summary
After nearly four years, Norbert Szecsi finally added another WSOP bracelet to his name after taking down the $5,300 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller Freezeout which ran as part of the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP) online bracelet series.
The Hungarian poker pro topped a 218-entry field to secure his third gold bracelet and a top prize worth $288,850.
Eliminations took place in quick succession during the early stages of the final table, with Adam “PHsGoldShoes” Hendrix the first to bust after his ace-jack suited was defeated by the pocket queens of “qpoker205“. Hendrix collected $26,160 for his 8th-place finish. Next to go was Michael “mikejozoff” Jozoff who finished 7th for $39,240.
Phil Galfond failed in his quest for a fourth bracelet but it wasn’t that bad for the Run It Once founder as he managed to reach the final table and claimed the 6th spot for $52,320. Just like Galfond, two-time WSOP champ Taylor “galactar” Paur also fell short of winning another bracelet after he was eliminated in 5th place for $63,220. The next player to leave was “qpoker205” who took home $74,120 for his fourth-place finish.
Greg “DustedYou” Merson, the 2012 WSOP Main Event champion, was out in 3rd place with $96,465 in winnings. Heads-up play was a battle between two-time bracelet winners – Szecsi and World Poker Tour commentator Tony “Panoramic” Dunst.
Szecsi held a comfortable lead over his opponent when the heads-up action began, mainly thanks to “qpoker205” through whom the Hungarian pro doubled up, allowing him to take the dominant position prior to the heads-up match. Szecsi never relinquished his spot and ultimately sealed his opponent’s fate.
All it took was an all-in from Dunst who initially held king-four offsuit against Szecsi’s ace-two offsuit. Dunst cards improved when he picked a pair of fours on the flop, but Szecsi turned superior pocket aces. The river was a brick which meant victory went to the only non-US player at the final table. Dunst secured a $169,950 payday for his runner-up finish.
Szecsi meanwhile just took home his third bracelet. He won his first back in 2013 when he triumphed in a $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em tournament for #345,037. His second bracelet win took place five years later when he emerged victorious in a €1,650 Mixed Pot-Limit Omaha/No-Limit Hold’em event for €86,956 ($109,128).
