Patrick Antonius Takes Down First Triton Event at MPP 2022 for $825k

Summary

  • Antonius outlasted a field of 131 players to secure the title and $825,000 in top prize
  • The field was made up of several big names, including Paul Phua, Steve O’Dwyer, and Seth Davies
  • Ebony Kenny made history as the first woman to final-table a Triton Series event

Patrick Antonius has added yet another major title to his resume after winning the Triton kickoff event at the ongoing Mediterranean Poker Party in Cyprus.

The tournament pulled in a total of 131 entries to create $3,275,200 in total prize pool. When the dust settled, it was Antonius who walked away with the top prize worth $825,000.

That victory is the Finnish poker pro’s fourth-biggest score so far and his eighth live cash for 2022, bringing his total live real money poker earnings to over $13.7 million.

The $25,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em tournament was a two-day affair, participated in by numerous prominent players from the high-roller circuit, including Ivan Leow, Selahaddin Bedir and Paul Phua. All three reached the money but didn’t make it to the final table.

Final Action

Just eight players proceeded to the final action, some of whom were familiar names, including World Poker Tour Main Event winner Seth Davies who was the first to be eliminated from the final table. He finished 8th for $109,500.

Next out was Thai player Kannapong Thanarattrakul who lost a race against Antonious with K-Q versus pocket fives. He collected $145,700 for finishing 7th. Antonius went on to knock Viacheslav Buldygin out of the game in 6th place for $190,500.

The next player to go was Ebony Kenney who led the chips when the final table started. She was unable to maintain his chip advantage after losing a huge chunk to Antonius earlier in the game. With just five players remaining, Kenny failed to recover and eventually finished in 5th place for $240,500.

Another popular figure in the final table, World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Danny Tang followed Kenney to the rail finishing 4th for $300,000. Steve O’Dwyer finished 3rd in the tournament for $362,000, his third cash in the festival. Just two days earlier, he finished 4th in a $10,400 MPP High Roller event for $25,000.

Antonius faced Fahredin Mustafov heads-up and in the final hand, the Finnish pro overcame a bluff from his opponent to secure the title. Mustafov earned $557,000 as runner-up.

Ebony Kenney Makes History

Ebony Kenny may not have won the tournament but it was such a big day and a memorable one for her as she made history as the first female player to reach a Triton Series final table. Her 5th-place finish also marks her biggest score so far, made even more special by the fact that it was her first-ever high roller event.
