Indian poker players will have something to look forward to next week as PokerStars launches “Diwali Rush”, a special Platinum Pass promotion which runs in conjunction with one of the most popular Hindu festivals in the country ‘Diwali’ which is known as the Festival of Lights.
The festival promo is yet another way that PokerStars’ is looking to build its brand in India and expand its customer base.
While Diwali is known as the festival of lights, most Indian light firecrackers that give off a loud bang and PokerStars is hoping that its special “Diwali Rush” will create a bang in the Indian poker scene.
The Diwali promo kicks off on Oct 28 and runs till Nov 5. Throughout the week, players get the chance to take part in 34 events which come with a combined guaranteed prize pool of 1.5 Crore Indian rupees. The tournament also features a 30 Lakh GTD Main Event and offers free prizes worth more than 32 Lacs.
The special promotion will also give players the opportunity to see if they can book themselves a place to the highly anticipated PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold’em (PSPC) Championship which takes place in the Bahamas next year. This is possibility because PokerStars India is giving away a Platinum Pass worth $30,000.
To qualify for the much coveted Platinum Pass, players need to take part in three events during the tournament. The Platinum Pass entitles the winner to a free accommodation at the 4-star Atlantis Resort in Nassau, flight expenses, as well as a buy-in to the $25,000 event. The lucky finisher will join poker pro Sumit Sapra from Chandigarh, who also earned a Platinum Pass during the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Korea earlier this year.
Five other Platinum Passes were also given to the winners of the Global Poker League (GPL) tournament in India. GPL India is sponsored by PokerStars and the GPL India winners, along with the Platinum Pass winner of the Diwali special promotion, will represent India and get the chance to create a name for themselves at the PSPC in the Bahamas.
In addition to the “Diwali Rush”, PokerStars is also running three freeroll tournaments from Oct 27 – Nov 30, with the top 27 finishers being awarded with free tournament tickets which they can use to build their bankroll. Each tournament will also award winners with corresponding Ranking Points and free merchandise prizes.
