Scott Seiver Replaces Dwan in High Stakes Duel Match Against Hellmuth

Summary

  • Scott Seiver will face Phil Hellmuth on High Stakes Duel III Round 4 on May 17
  • Tom Dwan backed out of the match due to a scheduling conflict
  • Seiver could be the toughest opponent Hellmuth has faced on the show

Scott Seiver takes over as Phil Hellmuth‘s new opponent on High Stakes Duel. The pair will battle it out on May 17 at 5 p.m. PT.

Dwan backed out of the match last week due to a scheduling conflict.

High Stakes Duel III Round 4 was initially scheduled for May 13, but Dwan’s commitment to the Triton brand, which he promotes, meant he couldn’t make it to Las Vegas just in time for the match. Triton is currently running a High Roller Series in Madrid, Spain which kicked off also on May 13.

Seiver’s Impressive Poker Background

Round 4 of the current series comes with an $800,000 pot, with Seiver contributing $400,000 as Dwan’s replacement. The guy is no stranger to these stakes. The buy-in is not so much of a big deal for him as he has been a regular in some of the biggest games in Vegas, particularly in the Legend’s Room at Bellagio. The 37-year-old also competes in various high-stakes tournaments across the world.

While Seiver’s expertise is cash game poker, his tournament record does not disappoint as well. He is a three-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner, and also has one World Poker Title (WPT) to his name. So far, the New York native has amassed more than $24 million in live cashes throughout his career. His biggest live tournament score came in 2015 when he finished second in the $500K Super High Roller Bowl Las Vegas for $5.1 million.

Battle of Two Legends

Hellmuth has had an impressive showing on High Stakes Duel so far, with only one defeat out of nine sessions. Dwan, who gave him his first loss was the only player among Hellmuth’s opponents with a strong heads-up background.

Could Seiver hand Hellmuth his second defeat on the show? Entirely possible. Seiver is a high-caliber poker pro with solid experience in high-stakes games. He is one of the most accomplished players in the world of poker who will most likely be nominated to the Poker Hall of Fame once he reaches 40. A victory against Hellmuth on High Stakes Duel would boost his chances of being inducted into the prestigious club.

Meanwhile, the upcoming match will give Hellmuth another chance to prove his critics wrong. Defeating a player of Seiver’s caliber would earn him bragging rights and support his GOAT claim.
