The Star Sydney Championships which is the longest-running poker tournament in Sydney, Australia is coming back this year with action-packed events, a huge entry field and AU$2.25 million in guaranteed prize money.
The Star Sydney Championships celebrates its 10 th anniversary this year and will run from July 17 to August 6. As always, the tournament will take place at The Star Sydney with a 15-event schedule and a $3,000 Main Event set to start on August 3.
The Star Sydney Championships has grown in popularity with every passing year and the last 2 years has seen a record number of entrants to the Main Event.
In a statement, Quayle said,
The Sydney Championships has become one of the most popular tournament series for players in the region and we look forward to building on that success. We’11re very proud to continue our long-term goal of growing Poker at The Star, to offer players from all over the globe a world class tournament series in Sydney’s only fully integrated gaming resort
The 2017 Main Event at the Star Sydney Championships was a huge success with 496 players vying for the $1 million guarantee. Australian player Henry Tran was able to dominate the field and went home with a first place prize of AU$300,000, which was five times his total live earnings before the win. Warwick Mirzikinian also won big at last year’s Championships, taking home both the 6 Max and the inaugural $20,000 buy-in High Roller Event titles.
Damian Quayle, Chief Operating Officer Gaming at The Star believes that this year, the tournament will top last year’s record and bring together more than 500 players to the Main Event. They’re also expecting a good turnout for the high roller event, which awarded $247,000 to the winner last year.
The 2018 Main Event will have a $3,000 buy-in and a $1 million guarantee. The Main Event will have a Repechage format that allows players who bust out of Flight 1 to re-buy for Flight 2. Apart from the Main Event, players are also looking forward to the return of the $20,000 buy-in High Roller and the addition of the new 10 Year Hyper Turbo with a $500 buy-in and $100,000 GTD. Two events will also offer a huge $500,000 guarantee: the $500 buy-in opening event that features four flights and a repechage format, and the two-day $5,000 buy-in challenge.
Players can now register and check the full schedule of the tournament via the official starpoker.com.au website. There are 10 satellites to the Main Event and the $5K Challenge, which will be held from June 24 to July 7 with buy-ins at $330 and $550.
