Toby Lewis Boosts Winnings To $6.5M After Third Aussie Millions Title

Toby Lewis has added another Aussie Millions title to his name! The British poker pro topped a 285-entry field to take down Event #8: No Limit Hold’em Shot Clock Six Max for a top prize of A$148,030.

The rest of the players making the final table include Xiajing Ji who finished runner-up for A$97,235, Justin Liberto in third place for A$56,600, Kwok Chun Kong in fourth place for A$42,085 and Corey Kempson who won A$30,475 for finishing fifth.

Lewis’ latest win represents his third major Aussie Millions victory, and it took place once again at his favourite venue – the Crown Casino in Melbourne.

The 31-year-old said the integrated resort, which houses Australia’s largest casino, has always had a special place in his heart even before he tasted success at the Crown Melbourne.

Lewis partly attributed his Aussie Millions victories to being comfortable with the venue. Crown Melbourne has played host to the tournament for over a decade now. The British player also complimented the Crown staff for being very professional in all that they do.

Online Poker Experience Helped Lewis Win

During his post-win interview, Lewis said he felt he was ahead of his opponents because of his familiarity with the format. The event was played in six-max, with the use of a shot clock, requiring players to make decisions in a short span of time. Lewis said his UK online poker experience helped him take down the tournament.

While he did not have a difficult time adjusting to the format, Lewis had some suggestions for making it even better. One of his suggestions include introducing time banks so players can have some extra time to think about their next move, especially during turns and rivers.

For the past three years, Lewis has earned more than A$3.2 million in cashes at the Crown Melbourne and he hopes to win more. Events with a six-max format are among Lewis’ favourite games to play as they allow him to play aggressively and compete for more pots, compared with High Rollers where you’re usually up against the best players, putting you in tough spots all the time.

Lewis is expected to try his hand at a number of other events at the 2020 Aussie Millions. He is looking forward to another deep run in the Aussie Millions Main Event, which he took down in 2018. He followed it up with another victory in the A$50,000 Challenge at Aussie Millions 2019. He currently has over $6.5 million in career prize money.
