Unibet Open Will Visit London’s ‘Poker Room’ In May

The Unibet Open is returning to London in May! The 2019 tour will have its second stop take place at the Poker Room which is situated above the popular Grosvenor Victoria Casino. The 2019 Unibet Open will run from May 23-26.

The 2019 London stop will make it the eight time that the Unibet Open has visited the historic city. A great poker festival is in store for UK players, with plenty of events spread across a four-day schedule. Among the events confirmed for the tour’s London stop include a two-day £2,200 High Roller, an invitational Battle Royale, a £500 Deepstack Open Cup, as well as the popular £110 #QueenRules Ladies Event  and a £220 Turbo Bounty event.

London Main Event to Draw Substantial Field

The main highlight will be the £990 Main Event which kicks off on May 23. The event is expected to attract some of the best players in the world, including a number of Unibet ambassadors, such as Ireland’s David Lappin, former Unibet Open champs Dan Murariu and Mateusz Moolhuizen, as well as Irish Open winner Ian Simpson.

The first winner of the Unibet Open London Main Event was Finnish poker pro Thanh Doan back in 2009. He bested a field of 266 entries for a top prize of £187,000. The 2018 winner was Andreas Wiborg who took home £56,807 after besting a field of 349 players.

One reason for the lower prize money in 2018 is because the Main Event’s buy-in has now been made more affordable for players at just £990, significantly lower than the original £2,750 when the first Unibet Open London Main Event was held.

More Unibet Open Stops

The Unibet Open has turned out to be a popular poker tournament for players across Europe. The next stop for Unibet will be in Malta as the poker festival will run from September 11-15. Unibet will then head over to Paris for its fourth and final stop which will take place from November 28 to December 1.

The French capital has played host to just one Unibet Open Main Event which was in 2012. The Main Event was won by Jarosalw Barglik after a heads-up battle with Kent Lundmark. Barglik went away with the first-place prize of €140,539.

Players can win their way to Unibet Open Main Events by taking part in online qualifiers at Unibet Poker. Main Event packages worth £2,000 are up for grabs, which cover travel expenses, four night’s hotel accommodation and the £990 Main Event buy-in.
